The Crime Prevention Council was established in 1980. The Council is the government's special organ for the prevention of crime and appointed the Minister for three years. It is now headed by Shahzad Rana has 11 members and a secretariat of six people.
KRÅD mission is to actively contribute to the coordination of the various preventive measures in crime control, and the Council has a particular focus on children and youth. KRÅD have introduced a model for the coordination of local crime prevention measures (SLT model), which is currently used by 200 Norwegian municipalities. These have employed a crime prevention coordinator (SLT coordinator) and may seek financial support from KRÅD to their actions.
Administrative Council is attached to the Ministry of Justice, but it is professionally independent. This means that it is the council that decides what's on the agenda, and it is the council that decides which fields given the mandate to be given priority.
